Setting up an efficient kitchen

Aren’t you tired of skipping your breakfast or paying unnecessarily in your office cafeteria and still claiming to have an unhealthy diet?

I have always felt that it is very difficult to maintain a perfect balance between my work and domestic life. And I am sure any working women feels the same way.

Being a woman is not so easy. Whether she is single or she is married, she is expected to meet all aspects of life like a superwoman. When I initially planned to set up a kitchen for a smart woman(of course, I am talking about myself. wink), I wanted to have everything I spotted in a kitchen appliance store.

But, I had budget constraint too. With this post, I am trying to help you to pick up the must haves. Remember, you are not going to replace them frequently. So, it’s wiser to choose ones that would perform well in the long run.

Double Door Fridge

It is the kitchen essential undoubtedly or may I say an unspoken kitchen essential since years. Choose a double door one with the freezer unit at the bottom. Believe me, your back would say thanks!

I always keep cut veggies, batters, homemade ginger garlic paste etc. in my fridge which helps me to prepare my breakfast quickly in morning.

Quick tip – In summer, store your lip colours in the fridge to keep them in pristine shape

Find double door fridges with bottom freezer unit here.

Cold Press Juicer

I can not survive without a glass of juice every day. Technology has evolved in few years and these days we have cold press juicer available in the market which can squeeze the juice out of whole a whole fruit.

So the burden on cutting fruits into pieces are gone. Isn’t it time-saving?

Check out my favourite cold press juicer

Pop Up Toaster

Who doesn’t love a crispy browned toast with butter, jam or peanut butter? Maybe you’re craving for an English breakfast over the weekend!

As a working woman, I find a toaster indispensable as it does the job effortlessly.

My simple but efficient pop-up toaster.

Hand Blender

Setting up a kitchen on a budget- Namrata- Bangalore based fashion Indian blogger

Gone are the days when we used to spends hours on preparing the batter and used our hands to blend eggs or even whip a cake mix. I am a smart woman and would any day prefer electric blenders over my hands.

You can prepare your lassi, breakfast smoothies directly into the serving tumbler. Save time and be efficient.

My favourite hand blender.

Electric kettle

Setting up a kitchen on a budget- Namrata- Bangalore based fashion Indian blogger

For someone whose morning does not start without a cup of green tea or black coffee, electric kettle helps to boil water in no time.

Quick Tip – Choose a stainless steel one with a covered heating element. You can even boil milk and make soups in these.

My favourite electric kettle

Microwave Oven

Setting up a kitchen on a budget- Namrata- Bangalore based fashion Indian blogger

It helps me to both reheat cooked food and do the actual cooking. It helps me to cook so many dishes with minimal effort.

I don’t have to keep a check on my food every 2-3 minutes. Food is prepared as per timer. The microwave oven has made my life so easy and cooking so interesting.

Make your pizzas, grilled meat, lasagne, etc in this. I don’t have to run to restaurants for every food items I love. It is really easy to clean as well.

Quick Tip – Choose one with convection. It helps in the browning of your cakes, grilled meat, etc.

My favourite microwave oven.

Induction Cooktop

Setting up a kitchen on a budget- Namrata- Bangalore based fashion Indian blogger

It is an alternative of gas stove powered by electricity and is really versatile. I don’t use it on a daily basis now.

I use it only in case of emergency when my gas refill is over, but I have used it for 3 years continuously and it is super easy to handle.

The cooktop which has stood by me over the years.

Food Processor

Setting up a kitchen on a budget- Namrata- Bangalore based fashion Indian blogger

This kitchen essential is similar to a blender. This is better than a blender and comes with multiple attachments and helps to do multiple kitchens works such as grating, blending, chopping, mincing etc.

You may call this as the Swiss Army Knife of a modern kitchen. Get this and you would not need to get a blender, mixer, grinder, etc. à la carte.

The food processor I cannot live without.

20 Closet Essentials for a Woman

Hey Belles! What are you up to? My birthday is around the corner and I am really excited for it. This excitement has not waned over the years and I used to be the same at 5!

As a kid, I wanted to birthday frock and tutu skirt on my birthday every year. Since the last year, I have noticed a change in my outfit preference and I do not tend towards chunky and jazzy outfits on my birthday.

Changing Preferences

I keep a close eye on my closet and closet basics nowadays. Hence, I thought of sharing these 20 closet essentials I think every woman should own, be in their teens, twenties or thirties.

The idea behind sharing closet essential is that all of us struggle right from our office wear to the Saturday evening outfit. Let us get organised and be prepared for any occasion in life. I doubt most of us out there would say no to owning these basics.

  1. Superb Sunglasses– While we have enjoyed wearing all funky and cool looking sunglasses, once you invest in a good, branded sunglasses, you would not step out without them.Namrata-Myclosetdiary- Bangalore based Indian fashion blogger

  7. LBD– Definitely with a change in age and lifestyle I have cut down on parties. At times, I have to attend cocktail parties and evening outings. If you don’t want to buy lots of party wear dresses, go for a little black dress which is a closet essential again. Trust me it will never be out of vogue.

Coloured hair care by Schwarzkopf

I got my hair coloured after 2 years and this is the first time I have got it done globally. I was eager to go for global highlights but was little worried about the possible damage to my hair. Of course, before getting my hair coloured I did do research on coloured hair care and in fact on salon and stylists.

Colouring the day red

It was quite a long day when I got my hair coloured. My stylist took almost two and half hours for the complete procedure and while stepping out I was in hurry and forgot to buy L’Oréal’s professional conditioner and shampoo.

I had to buy a conditioner as well because it is a must for coloured hair. The next day I  stepped into Health & Glow store. It now has a neatly laid out separate section for professional hair care products.

I spotted Schwarzkopf’s products over there and it looked interesting to me. I bought Schwarzkopf’s conditioner and hair masque as I wanted to try their professional range came. It has been a little over 2 weeks now that I have been using it and I don’t regret choosing it over L’Oréal.

The Conditioner

Coloured hair care - Namrata - Bangalore based India Fashion blogger

Schwarzkopf Gliss Ultimate Color conditioner was an alternative to my usual preference, the L’Oréal’s conditioner. My hair is a little frizzy – it settles the day after of a head bath and on the second day it turns oily.

I am wary of conditioners as I want to avoid excessive use of chemical products. That being said, conditioners are unavoidable for coloured hair. Even if you don’t want to shampoo your hair you have to use conditioner whenever you wash your hair.

Coming back to the product, it is totally worth the price paid for. In fact, it serves more than I excepted it to be.

The Masque

Coloured hair care - Namrata - Bangalore based India Fashion blogger

As I have mentioned above, even if you don’t want to shampoo your hair, you need to use a good conditioner, whenever you wash your hair. This masque goes a step beyond for coloured and fine hair.

This is really beneficial for colour protection, hair repair and strengthening. It consists of liquidised crystals and UV filter which provides extra protection to my hair and works as a hair treatment at home.

You can feel the result after 1 minute of application. My hair feels soft, smooth and manageable after using the masque.

The Shampoo

Coloured hair care - Namrata - Bangalore based India Fashion blogger

To prevent water from leaching out hair colour, I selected Schwarzkopf Gliss Hair Repair Ultimate Colour Shampoo.

It’s not advised to shampoo coloured hair often but we need to wash our hair at least twice a week, especially in this summer.  Again, I feel the overall feel of these products is amazing and they are an absolute value for money.

So, this was the review of the 3 products I have moved to,  for my coloured hair care. However, do not limit yourself to any product usage. Here are few more tips which might help you to prevent your coloured hair from damage.

Care tips for coloured hair

  • Avoid rinsing your hair with hot water.
  • Treat your coloured hair with a good conditioner.
  • Use home treatments as well.
  • Don’t wash your hair too often
  • Go for deep conditioning or hair spa once in a month
  • The best home remedy for glossy coloured hair is hot oil treatment
  • Watch your diet for healthy hair
  • Even if you love your long tresses, get it trimmed periodically

The Un-boring Business Casual Wear

Hey Belles! Hope you all are having a good time and enjoying the weekend to the core. Workwear is always a top priority for an independent woman. When at work, I love to look presentable and if you too want to be taken seriously at work, you need to dress up appropriately.

Our everyday struggle

Selecting an outfit for work is my everyday’s struggle. Isn’t it same for you girls? I love the purposeful look to the extent where I love to wear a formal skirt on Fridays as well. When it comes to a conference or important meeting on weekends, I dot the i’s and cross the t’s. In fact, I start mentally picking them out much before the actual event.

The un-boring business casual

Today, I am going to show you a wear-to-work look which is appropriate for a startup company or a business casual office. This morning, I found an old top in my wardrobe while I was seeking a soothing coloured blouse for a casual look.

I had got this top in the year 2015, during my trip to Thailand and had totally forgotten about it. I have paired this bardot top which has short puffed sleeves, elasticated on the chest with my black pencil skirt and black pumps.

Accessorise business casuals wisely

To accessorise, I decided to wear a pearl necklace, earrings and bracelet to give it an elegant touch. With minimal effort, I was ready for my Friday 9-5 look. Later, I just moulded my bardot top into an off-shoulder top to mould my look for an evening out with friends.. Also, to make it look top hot I pulled my black knitted self-stripped pencil skirt bellow my navel and I was party ready.

So this was my quick business casual look from my closet. I am so happy I did not have to buy an outfit for a small meeting that happened on a Friday.

Few suggestions for your business casual wear

  1. It’s better to invest in a good pencil skirt than a business casual dress because it gives you versatility.
  2. In case you don’t have a business casual outfit and you have to go for conference or meeting on weekends opt for formals rather than going in casuals.
  3. Always choose light and simple jewellery for business casuals. It’s ok to wear only a watch. Avoid over doing it.
  4. Invest in a good pair of pumps. You can wear them in both formal and business casual settings.
  5. Always go for comfortable clothing and shoes. Comfort gives confidence.
  6. Carry a jacket, peacoat or a blazer along even in summer days for a/c conference rooms.
  7. Your outfit should be clean, ironed and look out for any holes.
  8. Print and patterns are acceptable in business casuals if they are not outrageous.
  9. The skirt should not be shorter than 3 inches above the knees. ( I can totally relate to the pain a tall girl like me has while looking for a proper length skirt)

The truth about belly fat

Hey Belles! This is going to be my second post regarding fitness. I have been a bit inconsistent – I apologise for that! Today I will be focusing on how to get a flat stomach. Everything I will be sharing is out of personal experience.

My struggle with belly fat

Well, I am a very health conscious person and usually, watch what I eat. At the same time, I love to indulge now and then as well. So, the question is how do I manage to stay in shape?

Since last few months, I was tending towards an unhealthy life resulting in a bloated face and tummy. Sometimes we actually do not become fat overall but we just gain belly fat.

While the whole world was questioning me on becoming fat, I could not figure it out as I was able to fit in all my outfits. Lately, I realised I am gaining fat over my belly and the face.

The reasons for gaining belly fat

  1. Fruit Juices/Sugary Beverages – We equate fruit juices to a healthy choice. However, juices are little more than a cocktail of fructose(fruit sugar) with most of the nutrients leached out. Added sugar in juices makes matter worse. Our body NEEDS fibre from whole fruits.Try to choose whole fruits over their juices. look out for “100 %” or”no added sugar” on the pack, If there is no other way.
  2. Low-fiber Diet – It’s a continuation of the point above. We have substituted whole food with refined food in most of our diet. Maida instead of whole wheat, refined sugar over honey, polished rice, etc. Lack of fibre in your diet leads to a bloated tummy and constipation.
  3. Wrong workout or Non-Challenging Workout– You might be regular at walking or running and could still find it hard to shed stubborn belly fat. Cardio workout will alone not help you to reduce belly fat. You need a combination of cardio and weights. To burn stubborn fat you need to ramp up your workouts. You need to workout at full intensity because the end goal is to burn more calories, and high-intensity exercise does just that.
  4. Processed Food– Refined grains like bread, ready to eat food, packaged breakfast, chips and cakes increase inflammation in our body. Belly fat is related to inflammation, so consuming too many processed foods will, in turn, give you belly fat. Having wrong fats- Yes, that’s true, we cannot survive without fat and our body does not react to all kinds of fats equally. More intake of saturated fat such as red meat and dairy products increase fat deposits in our body. On the other hand use of olive oil, sunflower seeds and fish are good for our belly. If taken in moderation it’s good for our body. But, ingesting too much fat of any kind increases your calorie intake and could lead to weight gain, so enjoy healthy fats in optimum quantity.
  5. Stress– In this fast moving life, we all are somewhere stressed. Stress can be anything; deadlines at work, bills, personal life issues etc. Whatever is the reason for your stress, having too much of it can lead you towards unwanted weight gain especially on your middle body. It is due to the stress hormone cortisol, which may increase the amount of fat your body and increases your fat cells.
  6. Skimping on sleep– If you are not able to sleep a minimum of 6-7 hours you are surely going to gain weight. Especially in the case of women, we need to give proper rest to our body. If we avoid our proper sleep we will feel lazy and lethargic all the time and it leads to increase in our belly fat.
  7. Alcohol – Alchohol in moderation, especially red wine, is good for the heart. Nevertheless, you will probably be feeling pretty crappy after a binge session, load up on unhealthy food (both the night of and the day after) and skip the gym. Note- Try to limit the amount of alcohol you have on a night out, drink a glass of water for every alcoholic drink, and choose healthier options such as red wines.
  8. You are unmotivated–  The bottom line is if you are unmotivated towards your fitness goals and shedding belly fat, nobody else can put in the effort on your behalf. So, first ask yourself that are you committed to doing the work needed to lose belly fat? Getting rid of belly fat is neither easy nor impossible. It requires a combined approach of proper diet, sugar intake check and workout.

If you think you are alone in the struggle with belly fat, then you are wrong. I am one among you and currently, I have gained belly fat. It’s not prominently visible but I want to take precaution before somebody asks me that if I were pregnant.

I have decided to take a 30 days challenge to shed belly fat and gain overall fitness. Can we take this challenge together?

Tank It Up

I have always felt that tanks are underrated when it comes to sporting one outdoors and we seldom confine our tanks, some of them being quite trendy, quirky, most of them come with great pick up lines not to forget! behind the closed doors of our houses and why? Because we feel comfortable and why comfortable? Because they tend to be our best mates during summer! So at the backdrop of the said things, why restrict something so comfortable, light in texture and yet so stylish and trendy for indoor purposes?

What is comfortable is also fashionable in every sense, so let’s shrug of the visual stereotypes which we ourselves mostly abide by! Cheers to a more cool and comfortable beginning!

The focal point of this blog is to showcase a few combinations which I feel is surely going to make you stand out from the tried and tired combinations around you (just talking about clothes)!

Finding “The One”

Hold on, I am not going to lecture you about relationships or solve your dilemma about which Smartphone you should go for! Ring any bells? That uphill task of choosing the right tank? Not to forget that unique print? Because plain is so in vain! Had a long stare at your wardrobe? Nothing conclusive? Well, take my advice, without a frown go for that brown!

A printed brown tank is pretty uncommon and the ideal combination here would be to pair it with ripped jeans and since you are already sporting a tank of a darker color tone, a lighter shade of denim would satiate your thirst of getting that perfect look, not to forget that classy and prized reflector of yours! The last ingredient is the most important, not talking about your favorite dish over here! Shades folks! A brown reflector would be apt!

Let Your Denim Do The Talking

Aren’t we all crazy behind denim shirts? Quite rightly so! They always notch up the glam quotient so why not combine a denim shirt with a tank? Yes? No? Would seem like a Wardrobe malfunction?

Boy oh boy, now doesn’t that look dapper?Well if you don’t experiment with your clothes, if you just stick to the tried and tested and the usual stereotypes, you would be restricting your own growth, so be bold with your attire, because ideally, your attire speaks for you!

Street style

Street style is synonymous with casual, comfortable, not to forget, funky and quirky. Street style generally symbolizes a casual outing with friends so the basic idea here would be to portray a smart look consisting of a complete set of casuals and I have got just the look for you!

A bright colored tank with an adage,  dark green chinos and a killer attitude, you are bound to rule the streets (Let’s not get literal now)! You could sport this look without sunglasses too!

Shades on?  It’s totally up to you! And the weather not to forget!

These are some of the many looks which you could sport if you are planning to wear a tank during your next outing.

Clothes have voices too, so the expression is not just limited to verbal communication, an expression is basically how we present ourselves. The way we dress up, the attention that we give to every minute detail before leaving our house, this entire process is a form of expression

Let expression flow freely; wear what you like, experiment with your wardrobe, and stay tuned for my next post.

Thank you. Until next time.

Dressing comfy on a trip

Hey Belles! How was your weekend? Well, I went for a small trip with family to Coorg. Usually, I prefer to shop according to the place I would go to.

This was an impromptu trip and I could not get enough time for shopping. Nevertheless, this was a much-needed break from daily grind and time out with family.

I was in the mood to completely relax and spend quality time with family. Definitely, if I am looking for a relaxed day, I love to wear very breezy and carefree outfit.

I was looking for the most flexible outfit in my wardrobe and then I found this printed pocketed pants in my closet. Ah! I cannot express how easy I feel wearing them. It’s so steady on my skin.

Noodles on my plate

Since this trouser is black with multiple coloured prints, I was at a liberty to pair plenty of colours with it. I wanted to wear something bright with it so that it adds a fresh look to the otherwise hot and humid conditions.

This lightweight yellow top by People is an awesome choice I made. Noodle straps tops have been everywhere this season, from the city streets to runway. Personally, I love this summer trend. When paired in a right way noodle straps tops are hot, refined and stylish all at the same time.

This top looks deceptively simple. I love the lace pattern at the bottom of the top. A criss-cross pattern adorning the back gives it an extremely chic look with the noodle straps.

So now I can relish a ridiculously delicious plate of noodles and wear noodle straps as well!

Accessorize your outfit right

  • Earrings – Pom pom earring can be spotted everywhere this season and I have quite a few pair of them, both in monochrome and multiple colours.
I have clubbed multicoloured pom pom earrings with my outfit to add a further dash of colour to the outfit.
  • Scarf– A soft silk scarf never lets you feel overdone or heavy. Bandanas, also known as kerchiefs or neckerchiefs, are the coolest accessories.
They can be worn in many ways, are timeless, and you cannot find a better piece to protect your hair from the harsh Sun.When out on a trip, this becomes an essential in your bag.
  • Espadrilles– What else other than a pair of espadrilles can be so stylish and appropriate for a casual outfit. If you were to take a look inside your favourite blogger’s closet, we guarantee you’d find a pair of covetable espadrilles.
The summer shoe trend is the perfect solution for a casual, comfortable, and stylish look.

You could try this combination for any day trip, vacation or even while hanging out with friends over the weekend. Rummage through your closet and I’m sure you would find something to get this look. Not only does this look super cool but believe me, your day would feel like a cold breeze blowing on your face.

Shirt dress – a Vacation Closet Staple

If I had to narrow down my travel bag to just one dress, it would probably be a shirt dress. One thing I love most about a shirt dress is its versatility.

A month ago I had written how a shirt dress could be adapted to suit different engagements in a day. In this post, I will be showing you ways to adapt a shirt dress to your travel closet.

It’s the most accomplished, comfortable, easy to wear, outfit for travel or a low-key occasion as well. I am emphasising on travel because that is the time when we look for most fashionable yet comfortable outfits. Trips become more fun filled if we are in the coolest outfit.

Styling a Shirt Dress

I have more shirt dress in my closet than I show to the world and I never forget to pack one in my luggage. This time a white bohemian shirt dress is there in my trip bag. I have styled a few option to show you how to wear a shirt dress for your next trip:

  1. Pair them with slide sandals – For a low-key occasion, I prefer to wear a shirt dress with slide sandals or gladiators. I have clubbed this white shirt dress with strappy slide sandals. I am wearing a necklace of the same shade as shirt buttons to add bling to my ensemble. Isn’t it effortless yet classy?

  1. Wear shorts underneath – Some of us are not comfortable in a dress on a trip. The reason could be shorts or trousers allow better ease of movement. What if I tell you that you can wear a shirt dress over shorts and it will look uber cool. Unbutton the bottom of your shirt dress and walk like a diva. You can also wear them with over a pair of jeans and team them with pumps.

  1. Layer them over a casual outfit– Layering is again very much in trend. We use a shrug, kimono, shirt, denim jacket and what not for layering these days. Let us give shirt dress a shot in layering. I am sure you will love the flawless feel.
