How was your weekend ? With the April Sun beating on my back, I spent most of my weekend indoors. So naturally, my quest for cool and comfortable summer wear beyond regular denims, continues.
Today, I am back with my favourite outfit of yesteryear. I still remember how much I had enjoyed wearing dungarees as a kid. Be it an outing with the family, a friend’s birthday or even a school trip, dungarees used to be my the go-to outfit.
I have watched my favourite 90’s stars and fashion icons’ style emerge over the years, but there is still something nostalgic about their outfits which keeps the memories alive. When I noticed that dungarees were back in vogue, the 90’s kid in the me got excited and I could not stop myself from buying one.
Do you know that the term Dungaree is possibly derived from Dongri, a dockside village near Mumbai. Just as its close cousin, denims, it came into use as being a sturdy and long lasting clothing for railroad and mill workers.
Dungarees in 90s
Dungarees are also known as overalls or bib overalls. Just a thought, what would the decade have been without those cute dungarees ? They were so much fun to wear as a kid and made stand out of crowd then as well. Feel lucky if at least one of those overalls are still in your wardrobe and you fit in them. Back in the day, these were pretty much an elementary school style essential.
Luckily, my favourite overalls have been out of fashion for so long that they fall into retro category, which in turn makes them cool again since 2015. Every year brands try to resuscitate retro fashion with a fresh take. I am so happy that all good things from 90’s are coming back in trend. I feel so nostalgic wearing them.
Today I am here in two different pairs of dungarees, both of them are cool in their own way.
Boyfriend fit dungarees
I bought these dungaree at People store. I love each and every minute details about this particular dungaree. This dungaree has got words written on it which makes it so cool. It’s highly distressed over the knee area and I love how comfortable knees cut out jeans are. Fit of jeans being boyfriend fit makes it so comfortable for perfect summer day. Its so cute and comfy too with endless ways to wear it.
It was hot so I clubbed it with comfortable short sleeves yellow t-shit. To complete the easygoing look, I teamed the dungarees up with black sneakers with white soles and carrying a cute faux leather white backpack. I would prefer wearing this boyfriend fitted dungarees any day as this look makes feel comfortable yet look stylish. That’s what I call instant style.
I have always just dressed how I wanted, taking bits and pieces of inputs from the magazines, movie stars and models but essentially, I simply pick up things that suit the image of me in my head.
Now that summer is almost at its peak, every brand is focusing on airy summer wear and if you notice, most of them are rehashed Superhit trends of the years one by. I am sure, just like me even you are bored of wearing shorts and t-shirt and want to try something new with the same comfort level. Some of you would prefer a shorter length than the classic full length.
So here I am in my dungaree shorts (also known as shortalls), pairing them with a red t-shirt with a summer quote. I wish I could have got my hands over something written about summer and Bangalore, but this doesn’t look bad either. I have used same backpack as I love the colour and it’s pretty functional too, storing all my knick knacks for the day. How can I forget my favourite shoes when I am being so nostalgic. I am in so much love with my white puma leather sneakers, I can’t stop wearing them unless I find a better substitute.
Wear your Dungaress the way you want. Team them with your favourite t-shirt, crop tops or even a tank top. You can wear slip on sneakers, canvas shoes or even combat boots with them. I was feeling so nostalgic that I have come up almost the same style that I used to wear them being a teenager. If this post has made you nostalgic too, then try your favourite style of dungaree and pair them with a cool top wear soon.
Until the next time, stay awesome!
